The Learning Network is challenging young people between the ages of 13 and 25 to write a caption for a New York Times photograph of their choice, using aquotation from historyliteraturethe arts or pop culture. Students select any photograph they like from the past year on except from The Opinion section, The Sunday Magazine or T Magazine. Then they write a caption, or thought or speech bubble, describing what’s going on in the picture or conveying what they imagine the people in it are thinking or saying. The caption must consist of, include or be a twist on a line from history, literature or the arts, including movies, theater and music. Finally students should send their caption by adding a comment to The Learning Network’s online blog. Favorite entries will be featured on the blog.
